As my last weekend trip of the semester I really wanted to
go see the ruins of Pompeii, and most of my girlfriends wanted to go see
Sorrento, the nearby town known for the beaches and citrus trees. So we decided
to go this past weekend, despite the weather forecast of rain…all weekend. When
we got to Sorrento it was actually sunny and quite beautiful, and I was able to
take some photos, but all day Saturday we spent at the Ruins. I don’t know why
I’m so fascinated by Mount Vesuvius and the city of Pompeii, but I am glad I
got to go. While we didn’t get to go in to any of the Villas due to
restorations, we did get to see some of the above ground bath, the amphitheatre,
lots of pottery, house ornamentation and a few of the body castes. Even though
we were all cold, wet, and looked like naked more rats in all our pictures, I’m
glad we went because it wasn’t one of the places A&M takes us, but I still
feel it was pretty important.

Besides, we also got to see the culture different between
Tuscany and the southern part of Italy, which includes thick, fluffy crust
pizza. Saturday after the ruins we walked around the town of Sorrento and ate
lunch there before we had to take a bus back to our resort-style hostel. We
spent all day Sunday training back to Castiglion Fiorentino (just as we had
done Friday).

I only have a few more weeks before I return to the states,
but no worries, they are packed full until I leave! My mom and aunt come in
town next week and I get to see them in Florence and then be their personal
tour guide in Rome next weekend! But before that my final studio project is due
in 9 days…yay for being an architecture student again and living where I work=
less sleep. The week after my weekend in Rome our studio will be writing,
directing and producing a short film about a video game that is set in Medieval
town (hmmm…like Castiglion?) and then the following week I come home (YAY for
seeing Cody Weaver and my family!)
And one
last note- my stone carving class: I am currently working on my final project
which is a key (I’m hoping I can free it and hang it on my wall at home). Before
I started this I did an infinity symbol, but because it got a little lopsided
it now just looks like the number 8. Since it is now April I am hoping I will
get to ride the stone tricycle soon, and I promise you if I do there will be a
blog post soon after (not like how it took me this long to do 6 of them!)
